Government decides to amend ECL rules to stop misuse

The coalition government has decided to amend the Exit Control List (ECL) rules to stop its unnecessary use, sources said.

The ECL committee formed in the maiden cabinet of the Shehbaz Sharif government on Wednesday has recommended amending the rules.

Sources said inclusion in the ECL will only be done if it is extremely important.

It added that the committee has also recommended fixing a period for decision on pleas seeking removal of the names from the ECL. The recommendation has been made in light of the cases pending for years.

Sources in the law ministry said the notification regarding amendments in the rules will be issued upon the approval of the federal cabinet.
