On his official Twitter account, Akshay Kumar announced his resignation as a brand ambassador for a popular elaichi brand. Unbeknownst to many, the actor recently appeared in an elaichi commercial for a tobacco company. Akshay also apologised to his fans for endorsing the brand and promised to donate his fee to the cause.

“I am sorry,” Akshay tweeted. I apologise to all of my supporters and well-wishers. Your recent behaviour has deeply affected me. While I have never endorsed tobacco, I understand your sentiments given my relationship with Vimal Elaichi. I take a step back. I’ve decided to donate the whole endorsement fee to a good cause. The brand may continue to run ads until the end of my contract, but I promise to be very careful in the future. In return, please keep sending me your love and wishes.”
