According to reports, a Russian oligarch has denounced Russia’s “massacre” in Ukraine and called for an end to the current “crazy war”. Instagram post by Oleg Tinkov stated that there was “no benefit” to the conflict.
Mr Tinkov is one of Russia’s most well-known entrepreneurs and founded the global online bank Tinkoff Bank and owned the cycling team Tinkoff-Saxo.
One of the most prominent Russians to publicly denounce President Putin’s actions, he is also a member of parliament.
Mikhail Fridman and Oleg Deripaska, two of Russia’s most well-known oligarchs, have both called for peace, but neither has criticised the other.
Mr Fridman, a billionaire banker, has said any personal remarks could be a risk not just to himself but also staff and colleagues. The Russian government is currently suing Mr Mints, a British citizen. To the BBC, he said, “every right-thinking person has a duty to speak out against this appalling war and Vladimir Putin’s growing authoritarianism”.
“We must all do everything we can to assist Ukrainians who are suffering as a result of this vicious onslaught, whether they are in Ukraine or as refugees outside its borders,” he continued.
