The White House says Vice President Joe Biden is “sad” and “fearful” for the people of Ukraine as he deals with the images coming out of the country.

In response to Ukrainian forces’ pleas for help in Mariupol, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the administration continues to urge Russian forces to “guarantee safe passage” for civilians.

“We’ve all seen these pleas for help. Assuring safe passage for any civilians or others wishing to leave the city is a top priority for us ”

Psaki said US President Joe Biden is processing the horrific images coming out of Ukraine in a similar way to many other Americans. This is a sad time for many Americans, and the President is no exception,” Psaki said. He has a lot on his plate, but “this conflict is consuming a great deal of his time,” she said.
