Following his visit with Queen Elizabeth II last week, Harry stated that he wanted to ensure that his grandmother was “protected” and surrounded by “the appropriate people.”

LONDON, UK — Prince Harry expressed an interest in returning to the United Kingdom for Queen Elizabeth II’s forthcoming platinum jubilee and to allow his children to spend time with their great-grandmother, but warned that “security concerns” might prevent him from doing so.
“I’m not sure yet.” During an exclusive interview with “TODAY” co-host Hoda Kotb to discuss the fifth Invictus Games, a sporting tournament for injured and sick service members and veterans that he organised, Harry said, “There’s a lot of stuff, with security challenges and everything else.”
Harry, 37, said he was “trying to make it feasible” for his children, Archie and Lilibet, to visit his homeland and spend time with Elizabeth, who celebrates her 96th birthday on Thursday. Lilibet, who was born in June in the United States, has never met her great-grandmother or other royal family members.
The Duke of Sussex has been at odds with the British government over a decision to prevent him from paying for police protection when visiting the country. Harry has stated that he prefers to pay for his own security rather than relying on British taxpayers, but he has stated that he cannot do so without the approval of the British Home Office.
Without sufficient police protection, a legal lawyer for Harry previously stated that the prince, his wife, Meghan, and their children would be too dangerous to go to the United Kingdom from their current residence in Santa Barbara, California.
After he and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, privately visited with the queen over tea earlier this month, Harry told Kotb how great it was to spend time with his grandmother. The pair spoke up about the strain they felt in their positions and claimed racial treatment of Meghan by members of the British media during their first encounter since the couple stepped down as senior working royals and moved to North America in 2020.
Following a round of Covid, Harry told Kotb that the queen was in “excellent shape.” “It was fantastic to be with her,” he remarked. “You know, it was good to see her.”
The prince stated that he wanted to ensure that his grandmother was “protected” and that she was surrounded by “the right people.”
He also commended the queen for her “wonderful sense of humour” and stated that he and his grandmother had a “very good bond.”
He explained, “We talk about topics that she can’t talk about with anyone else.”
“Of sure, that’s a significant part of it,” he remarked later when asked if he missed his family. He was, however, focused on the families represented in the Invictus Games, he remarked.
