Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up again for a film based on the true story of Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro and his signing of Michael Jordan to the brand.
The yet-to-be-titled sports marketing film will center on Nike’s mid-eighties signing of superstar basketball player Michael Jordan.
The seemingly insurmountable task of convincing Jordon to sign a deal with the shoe company turned out to be the most historic arrangement ever negotiated between an athletic brand and a star in the sneaker market.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jason Bourne will play Vaccaro, while his long-time friend Phil Knight will play Nike co-founder Phil Knight.
The Gone Girl star will direct the film, and he’ll collaborate with Damon to rewrite the narrative, following their previous collaboration on The Last Duel’s script. The film will be produced by the two of them as well.
According to a report by Variety, “The film will follow Vaccaro’s conquest and introduce audiences to Jordan’s parents, in particular his powerful and dynamic mother, as well as former coaches, advisors, friends, and those close to Jordan.”
