The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated its travel warning list; majority of Europe is now considered a ‘high’ risk area

On Monday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention presented a new approach for assessing travel risk.

Many European countries, as well as other high-profile locations across the world, are now deemed “high” risk for Covid-19.
The new methodology categorises travel locations into the following groups:
• Level 3: Covid-19 is a high-risk organism • Level 2: Covid-19 is a moderate-risk organism
• Level 1: Covid-19 is a low-risk organism.
• Unknown: Insufficient information to determine danger
The most significant shift is at Level 4, which was formerly reserved for locations deemed to pose a “very high” danger to tourists. Level 4 will no longer be used for that purpose on a regular basis.
Instead, in the new system, a Level 4 notification is only issued in exceptional circumstances.

On Monday, the CDC’s Travel Recommendations online page did not list any places as Level 4 — “Special Circumstances/Do Not Travel.”
The existing methodology of 28-day incidence or case counts will continue to be used to establish levels 3, 2, and 1.
The reorganisation comes as US government agencies and the general people continue to respond and adapt to an ever-changing epidemic, sometimes in strife.
The Biden administration’s mask mandate for airlines and other public transportation means was thrown down by a federal judge in Florida on Monday, and a Biden administration spokesman said the order is no longer in force while the verdict is being reviewed.

The Level 3 “high” risk category in the new methodology applies to places with more than 100 cases per 100,000 population in the previous 28 days.
Level 3 nations include France, which, according to the UN’s World Tourism Organization, was the most visited country in the world in 2019 before the outbreak.
Other mainstays of the European tourism scene, meanwhile, are also classified as “high” risk. On April 18, they were: Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
This re-imagined list includes more than simply European favourites. Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Malaysia, Mexico, South Korea, and Thailand are among the other popular tourist destinations at Level 3.

Late Monday afternoon, there were little over 120 destinations at Level 3. The CDC reports on a total of 235 locations.
Before going to a Level 3 destination, the CDC recommends that you have all of your Covid-19 immunizations up to date. Not only do you need to be up to date on your original immunizations, but you also need to be up to date on any boosters for which you are qualified.
The United States is not included in the CDC’s list of advisories.
