Julia Roberts explains why she hasn’t acted in a romcom in almost two decades: ‘I’m a homemaker,’ she says.

Julia Roberts claimed she considers herself a homemaker in a recent interview, explaining why she hasn’t featured in a romantic comedy in 20 years.

The actor was astonished to learn that she hasn’t made a romcom in a long time while speaking with The New York Times about her new series Gaslit.

“I consider myself a homemaker,” The Notting Hill actor responded. “It can’t be 20 years, can it? Here’s the thing: If I’d thought something was good enough, I would have done it.”

The 54-year-old mother of 3 explained, “But I also had three kids in the last 18 years. That raises the bar even more because then it’s not only ‘Is this material good?’ It’s also the math equation of my husband’s work schedule and the kids’ school schedule and summer vacation. It’s not just, ‘Oh, I think I want to do this.’”

Roberts went on to say that she wasn’t avoiding romantic comedies on purpose, but that she couldn’t find anything nice that she was interested in performing.

In 2002, the actor married cinematographer Daniel Moder. Phinnaeus and Hazel, 17-year-old twins, and Henry, 14-year-old boy, are the couple’s three children.

On the work front, Roberts’ political thriller series with Sean Penn will premiere on April 24, 2022, and her new romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise, starring George Clooney and directed by Roberts after a 20-year hiatus, will be released in October 2022.
