Two British soldiers who were supposedly detained by Russian forces while fighting in Ukraine have appealed to Boris Johnson for assistance on Russian official television.
On Monday, Shaun Pinner, 48, and Aiden Aslin, 28, appeared in two different films begging to be exchanged with a pro-Russian lawmaker detained in Ukraine.
It’s unclear whether their appeals to the prime minister, which were broadcast on Rossiya 24, were made under duress.
The Foreign Office urged the Kremlin to treat detainees with dignity.
“The exploitation of prisoners of war for political purposes,” according to a department source.
Mr. Aslin and Mr. Pinner address the prime minister in the two clips, requesting to be exchanged with pro-Kremlin politician Viktor Medvedchuk. Mr. Aslin speaks in his video while an unidentified figure stands over him.
