Sarah-Hanson Young, a Greens senator, took a break from campaigning to marry her partner Ben Oquist on Saturday.
The South Australian MP and her beau, who is the executive director of the left-leaning think tank The Australia Institute, married at Lobethal Road Wines in the Adelaide Hills in front of 80 friends and relatives.
The senator Young confirmed her marriage on Easter Sunday, calling it “the most perfect day” on social media.
“Because of COVID, my side of the family, the family who live in Victoria, and Ben’s side of the family who live in NSW haven’t actually met until now, so it’s a lovely bringing together of the two families,” she said.
Mr. Oquist used to be the chief of staff for former Greens leader Bob Brown, who was one of the wedding guests.
Young’s 40th birthday was celebrated on Kangaroo Island this year, and the couple got engaged after Mr. Oquist sought permission from both of their kids.
She was the youngest woman ever elected to the Federal Parliament when she was first elected in 2008 at the age of 25.
