After Partygate, Britons are less likely to embrace new restrictions

THE STORY ABOUT THE PRIME MINISTER AND DOWNING STREET OFFICERS VIOLATING COVID RULES has reduced voters’ willingness to accept future lockdowns, a poll indicated.

According to the Techne poll, 32% of respondents are now less willing to support limits following the revelation that Boris Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak were fined for attending a nine-minute birthday celebration in the Cabinet Room for the Prime Minister. According to a study of 1,500 people, only 7% are more likely to favor further lockdowns, while 55% remain undecided.

Additionally, it revealed that 55% of people thought the Government’s two senior ministers should resign in light of the controversy. The Metropolitan Police have not ruled out imposing more fines as police examine additional alleged occurrences in Downing Street during the lockdown period.

Sue Gray’s recent research found 16 occurrences that occurred between May 2020 and April 2021 as potentially violating the guidelines.

Following his Tuesday punishment, Mr. Johnson apologized, noting, “I want to be able to go on with delivering the mandate I have but also addressing the issues that the country must confront right now.”

“I believe that it’s my job to get on and deliver for the people of this country and that is what I’m going to do.”

“Last week, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said Covid numbers were now on the wane.

“In the week leading up to April 9 around one in 15 people had the virus, which was down from one in 14 the week before.

Sarah Crofts, from the ONS, said: “Across most parts of the UK, infections have thankfully begun to decrease. Although it is too early to say if we have passed the peak of infections, and infections overall remain high.”
