Meghan Markle stuns in more than £300,000 worth of jewels at ‘The Hague’

Meghan Markle wore meaningful jewellery to her first engagement with Prince Harry, which took place in The Hague today.

As she went out for the Invictus Games, the Duchess of Sussex flaunted a mix of new purchases and old favourites, including a £17,800 ($23,000) Cartier watch originally held by Princess Diana.

Meghan also wore her £12,000 ($15,000) Cartier diamond earrings, as well as her magnificent £271,000 ($350,000) diamond engagement ring specially designed by Prince Harry and her Welsh gold wedding band, which she wore on her wedding day and during Archie’s christening.

Meghan Markle wore a £400 ($374) necklace by British designer Sophie Lis that honours ‘enduring love,’ exhibiting her preference for unusual accessories

The Duchess also wore two modest gold bracelets on her right hand that have yet to be named, as well as an incredibly stylish thin £234 ($238) gold chain coiled around her left hand by New York-based designer Catbird.

A peek into Meghan’s jewellery box…

Meghan Markle wore the same £12,000 ($15,000) Cartier earrings she wore when she married Prince Harry in May 2018 at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where she walked down the aisle in a breathtaking custom-made £200,000 ($265,000) Givenchy gown.

For her son Archie’s secret christening in 2019, the Duchess wore the same set of jewels.

In an interview with Femail at the time, stylist Rochelle White drew parallels between Meghan’s christening and wedding ensembles, explaining how they ‘linked the two meaningful events together.’

She explained: ‘Meghan played homage to her wedding day with her earrings.’

Meghan’s necklace is Sophie Lis’ £400 ($374) ‘Love pendant,’ which she first wore in 2020 during a visit to the National Theatre.

The piece’s title is taken from a French lyric about enduring and deepening love.

The engravings on the medallion are ‘Qu’hier’ after a diamond-encrusted plus sign and ‘Que Demain’ after a ruby-encrusted negative sign.

Sophie explained the message was taken from the poem ‘The Eternal Song’ on the internet.

‘Every day I love you more, more than yesterday, less than tomorrow,’ says Rosemonde Gérard, a 19th-century French poet.

The animal welfare organisation Wild at Heart Foundation receives 10% of the proceeds from each necklace, which costs £400 ($374).

The Duchess of Sussex’s gold wedding band, which she wore with her diamond engagement ring, was handcrafted from Welsh gold that the Queen had given her.

Wedding rings fashioned from gold nuggets from Clogau St David’s mine in Bontddu, North Wales, are usually handed to royal brides.

Cleave and Company, the official Royal jewellers situated at Buckingham Palace, created the piece.

Cleave’s clients include the Palace offices, governments, civil and military agencies of over 40 nations. They work with valuable stones, gold, silver, and other precious metals.

The Order of the Garter and the St. Michael and St. George’s Cross were designed by them.

Meghan Markle wore her £271,000 ($350,000) engagement ring next to her wedding band, which was fashioned by Prince Harry using a stone from Botswana, where the couple had been on vacation, and two smaller stones from Diana’s collection.

In November 2017, Harry proposed to Meghan with a gleaming ring that had a solid yellow gold band. However, photographs from 2019 indicated that the design had been altered to include a smaller ring with many pave diamonds put all around it.

Prince Harry spoke up about the ring’s design process shortly after their engagement, revealing that he carefully selected each feature to ensure that it matched his future bride’s preferences.

‘The ring is obviously yellow gold because that’s [Meghan’s] favourite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewellery collection, to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together,’ he said.

Meghan Markle called it ‘incredible’, explaining: ‘Everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of [Princess Diana’s stones] and obviously not being able to meet his mum, it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us.

‘It’s incredibly special to be able to have this [ring], which sort of links where you come from and Botswana, which is important to us. It’s perfect.’

Meghan wore a fashionable gold hand chain on her left hand from Catbird, a New York-based designer Meghan Markle has previously shopped from.

Meghan’s delicate gold hand chain is known as the ‘Kitten Mitten’ by the manufacturer, which retails for £234 ($238).

The ‘Kitten Mitten’ design by Catbird is described as ‘easy-breezy cool and super foxy,’ with the intention of ‘gracefully enhancing the wrist.’

‘A little bird told us MM wore a Kitten Mitten today,’ the business verified on Instagram, sharing a photograph of Meghan with the caption: ‘A little bird told us MM wore a Kitten Mitten today.’

The chain is looped around the Duchess of Sussex’s ring finger, implying that it is linked to Prince Harry.

The bracelet then forms a second loop around her wrist, close to the Cartier watch that Princess Diana previously wore.

The Cartier watch, a gift from Harry, was worth £17,800 ($23,000) at the time, but considering its history, it’s likely worth a lot more now.

Diana wore the exquisite watch on several occasions, including a 1997 visit to London’s Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Temple and a subsequent engagement at the British Lung Foundation.

Meghan Markle is a lover of the Tank watch and purchased her own two-tone version after ‘Suits’ was renewed for a third season in 2015.

At the time, she told Hello Magazine, ‘I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch. When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season—which, at the time, felt like such a milestone—I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version

‘I had it engraved on the back, “To M.M. From M.M.” and I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.’
