Sexual Assualt Conviction forces Tory MP Imran Ahmad Khan to quit

The Conservative MP, Imran Ahmad Khan, has announced he is resigning from the Commons after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy.

Imran Ahmad Khan has represented Wakefield since 2019 but has decided to to resign under given circumstances. He, however, said he was appealing against the conviction in court.

Khan also said he was quitting because it was “intolerable” for him that his constituents were represented improperly. As he will be busy going to courts. The decision will be followed by a by-election for his seat.

In the West Yorkshire seat, Khan had a majority of 3,358 votes in previous elections, which is popularly seen as being a part of the Conservatives’ Red Wall of former Labour strongholds in the North of England.

Khan was found guilty of groping the teenager at a party in Staffordshire in January 2008 by Southwark Crown Court. Resulting in his resignation.
