The regulators of California, unveiled a plan to ban the sale of new gas cars by the year 2035, on Thursday.
The state makes effort to fight greenhouse gas emissions.
According to CNBC, the plan from California Air Resources, calls for 35% of new car sales to be battery or hydrogen-powered by 2026.
The board will vote in August.
If the proposal is approved, gas and diesel vehicles will be banned from 2035.
Democratic California Governor, Gavin Newsome, says, “Pull away from the gas pumps. He added, “Let us no longer be victims of geopolitical dictators that manipulate global supply chains and global markets.”
The sale of electric cars in 2020, was roughly 8%, while in 2021, it rose to more than 12%.
