Eleven men and women in full military uniforms have been taken into custody by the Nigerian Army (NA). During OPERATION CHECKMATE in Lagos and Ogun States, the Military Police of the 81st Division detained the fictitious troops in custody.
There are several illegal activities perpetrated by imposters in 81 Division, according to Major General Umar Thama Musa, the GOC.
The operation was reported in a statement on Wednesday by Major Olaniyi Joseph Osoba, Acting Deputy Director 81 Division Army Public Relations.
Military flags and accoutrement are not worn by everyone who claims to be a member of the National Guard, according to General Musa.
Since January 2021, the GOC has reported that more than 150 imposters have been nabbed.
Some erected roadblocks along Ajah Road in order to extort money from passing cars and perform other unlawful acts.
They were caught in Ilaro, Ogun, bringing sacks of rice and other contraband into the country.
Musa stated that the suspects will be turned over to the police for further investigation and prosecution if they were arrested.
Military uniforms, T-shirts, and other gear, such as belts and bumper stickers, were discouraged by the senior commander.
People should contact NA Formations or Units if they see something like this, says Musa. He expressed his gratitude to the media for covering Army actions.
