On Friday, a couple with two kids crossed the sea to India. 39 individuals, mostly women, and children have reached the Indian shore seeking shelter. Sri Lanka is now in a recession. As a result, numerous individuals are crossing the Tamil Nadu border into India.
Sri Lanka’s 81-billion-dollar economy is in trouble. The government is on the verge of defaulting on its obligations, which exceed its foreign reserves. From the debt trap to inflation, several factors fueled the catastrophe.
India recently granted a $1 billion loan to Sri Lanka to help with the economic crisis. The Indian High Commission announced on Wednesday the lending of two additional fuel ships to Colombo. India also sends rice to Sri Lanka. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin notified the Center on Thursday that Tamil Nadu is ready to deliver necessary supplies like food and lifesaving medications to Sri Lanka. All they need is authorization from the Indian High Commission to distribute.
