Nepal’s central bank governor replaced

The government of Nepal removed Maha Prasad Adhikari, the head of the country’s central bank, after allegedly disagreeing with Finance Minister Janardan Sharma.

The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting, which also decided on nominees for 20 ambassadorial seats.

According to a Cabinet source, Adhikari was suspended when he refused to transfer 400 million Nepali rupees to a businessman who is a suspect in a money laundering investigation, despite the Finance Minister’s orders. Neelam Dhungana, the deputy governor, has been named acting governor.

Bishnu Pukar Shrestha, the Maoist leader, has been chosen as the envoy to China among the nominations for ambassadors to 20 countries. Before being finalised, the ambassadorial seats will require parliamentary approval.
