Opposition parties submit no-confidence motion against NA Speaker Asad Qaiser

ISLAMABAD: An hour before the commencement of national assembly session scheduled to vote on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, in a surprising move, the opposition parties have submitted a vote of no-confidence against Speaker Asad Qaiser.

With the motion against him submitted in the National Assembly secretariat, Qaiser will not be constitutionally mandated to chair the session on no-confidence motion against PM Imran. The voting on no-confidence motion on Speaker will be held on the next assembly session.

The opposition in its motion alleged that the speaker has violated the rules of impartiality and attends the core committee meeting of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The secretariat has acknowledged receiving the motion signed by over 100 opposition members signed the motion against Qaiser.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Sunday said the federal government had removed Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar from his post.

“The new governor of Punjab will be announced later. According to the constitution, the deputy speaker will be the acting governor (till then),” Fawad Chaudhry wrote in a tweet.

On April 1, Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar had accepted the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Ahmad Khan Buzdar. Punjab Governor Sarwar had summoned the Punjab Assembly session in Lahore on April 2 at 1100 in the morning to elect a new chief minister, however the session was later postponed.
