Ellyse Perry is on course to play World Cup final as a batter

Ellyse Perry is arguably the best women all-rounder in world right now. However, her fitness has been a worrying sign in past few years. She has missed last two games due to back injury and went through two crunch training sessions in Christchurch ahead of the final. She is on her way to participate in the final as a specialist batter only.

According to Australian captain Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry get through the fitness test pretty well, and the only thing standing in her way to final is how she recuperates from the runout.

Lanning said, “Ellyse got through a pretty hard and high intensity session yesterday and she’s trained again today and is feeling pretty good. It’ll just depend on how she pulls up sort of this afternoon … at this stage, it’s looking pretty good.”

Ellyse Perry is yet to bowl even in the nets ever since she pulled up from her three-over spell against South Africa. But with a batting average of near 50 in the one-day format, she can easily walk in the team solely as a batter.

According to Lanning, “She can definitely play as a specialist bat and that’s probably the most likely scenario. She hasn’t bowled for a couple of weeks now and it would be difficult for her to come out and bowl in a final if she hadn’t done that.”

The selectors will make a final decision on Saturday afternoon rather than leave it to the morning of the final so that players can prepare.
