Shahid Khaqan admonishes govt on hints of imposition of Article 6 on opp leaders

Shahid Khaqan

Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader and ex-prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday lashed out at the federal ministers for suggesting framing treason charges under Article 6 [of the constitution] on opposition leaders.

Addressing the media in Islamabad, he said the federal ministers suggesting imposing Article 6 [of the constitution] on the opposition members would be the first to testify against [Prime Minister] Imran Khan.

Shahid Khaqan said that Article 6 would be imposed on the ministers if they tried creating obstacles in the no-confidence voting.

He asked the prime minister to face the no-confidence motion like a democratic premier and leave if he loses in the voting.

Criticizing the removal of Usman Buzdar as Punjab’s chief minister, the ex-premier said the province has become deprived of the ‘most interesting’ chief minister in its history.

He said that the interior ministry and Islamabad administration would be responsible for any intervention in the parliamentary process tomorrow.

He also urged the capital city administration to abide by the constitution and law as they are the servants of the state, not Imran Khan.

Earlier in the day, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid urged the establishment to intervene and call for early elections as the country was heading towards anarchy.

The minister said the establishment’s intervention was required to avoid any clash in the county.

He said, “There are only four options left including the holding of early general elections, collective resignations of all MNAs of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), banning all opposition parties, and registering cases under treason charges for their involvement in the conspiracy against the PTI government.”
