Prince William and Kate Middleton are accustomed to royal treatment, and Tom Cruise recently made sure they were given a VIP screening of his latest film.
After learning that the Prince, 39, is a major fan of the original 1986 film, the actor surprised the couple with a private screening of the highly anticipated Top Gun sequel.
Tom organized the premiere of his movie Top Gun: Maverick for the royal couple along with some of his family members and friends in London.
The official premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month, as reported by The Sun.
According to insiders, Tom personally met the royals at the screening, which was arranged at an IMAX screen near London’s Leicester Square so they could see the action thriller on one of the country’s largest screens.
Sophie Wessex, Princesses Eugenie, Beatrice, as well as a few of the couple’s close friends, were among the guests.
‘It’s a very unlikely movie premiere, but Tom made the offer after learning William is a fan. They happily accepted. Let’s face it, guests don’t get much more A-list!’ the insider said.
‘The rest of the cinema was shut to ensure privacy and William, Kate and a few other members of the royal family — plus a couple of very trusted friends — were the first to see it.
‘Tom welcomed them and said he hoped they’d enjoy watching it as much as he’d enjoyed making it, and left them to it,’ the insider continued, adding that former RAF helicopter pilot William was a huge fan of the sequel.
In the film, Tom reprises his role as Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, filmed in 2018 and 2019.
The film, which was supposed to be released in 2019, was delayed amid the Covid-19 outbreak, will be released worldwide on May 27.
The first ‘Top Gun’ movie was released 30 years ago with Tom as a lead role of a young student Mitchell in the Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School.
Miles Teller plays Goose’s son ‘Rooster,’ who is following in his father’s footsteps under the guidance of Cruise’s Maverick.
The movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Cruise, Christopher McQuarrie and David Ellison.
Alongside in the cast with Tom are Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Charles Parnell, Bashir Salahuddin, Monica Barbaro, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, and Greg Tarzan Davis with Ed Harris.
