On 27th death anniversary of singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez, Latin music fans have learned new album in the works.
Singer was massively popular pop star, was born in Corpus Christi, Texas. On 31st of March 1995 she was shot dead by the president of her fan club.
She was popularly known as the Queen of Tejano music and had huge cultural impact in Tex-Max culture and the audience expanded for the Latin music in U.S. She began her singing career with her Mexican-American family’s band Selena Y Los Dinos at around age of 10, in her teen age she began recording hit songs and won awards along the way showcasing her duality and appealing to Mexicans and Americans. After breaking through in music Tejano where there was male dominancy, she won Grammy award in 1994 for best Mexican-American album with album “Live!” later she was honored with Lifetime Achievement Award at Grammys 2021.
Her “Dreaming of You” album which was released after her death’s less than four months.
Her super hit songs like “Bide Bidi Bom Bom” are still played today.
Soon her fans may have some new music from Selena to listen to. Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla, told recently that a new Selena album is expected to be released in April. The new album will have 13 songs, including one song that Selena recorded at age 13, and was worked on by Quintanilla’s brother, according to NPR.
Women by name Yolanda Saldívar, was found guilty of shooting and killing Selena is serving her sentence in a maximum security prison in Texas. She is now expected to be eligible for parole in 2025.
