Instagram revealed on Monday that it is developing a new tool that would make it easier for users to identify and support social causes directly through hashtags. When you search for specific hashtags linked with certain social movements, you’ll now see new choices for supporting them.
Once you’ve arrived at a hashtag page, click “Support” to learn more about the cause. There’s also a “Spread the Word” option that enables you send a DM to your pals with the hashtag page. The new tool, according to the firm, will make it easier to generate awareness for these causes by providing a “Create a Fundraiser” button that can be used to start raising money for a cause.
“Today, we’re starting to test a new feature on Instagram that helps people find and support social movements,” the firm announced in a blog post. “Hashtags have long been a place on Instagram where people find new causes to support, and now you’ll be able to support specific hashtags linked with different movements when you search for them.” Instagram is frequently used by people to make their views heard, raise awareness for topics, and bring communities together. They’re eager to support organisations they’ve heard about on Instagram, and they’re continually seeking for new ways to get involved – these upgrades will make it easier for them to do so.”
The new functionality is being rolled out to hashtags related to major causes on Instagram, such as #BlackLivesMatter, #womensrights, and #climatecrisis. The NAACP, GLAAD, AAJC, Hispanic Heritage Foundation, and Illuminative were among the organisations consulted by Instagram while deciding on the inaugural hashtag list. Instagram intends to work with organisations to improve the feature in the future.
