Belize may be the next country to depose the Queen as head of state, just days after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge leave for the next leg of their royal tour.

On Thursday, the Minister for Constitutional and Political Reform, Henry Charles Usher, said in the Belizean parliament, “perhaps it is time for Belize to take the next step” toward independence.

“Madam Speaker, the Caribbean region is being engulfed by the decolonisation process,” he said.

“Perhaps it’s time for Belize to take the next step toward true independence.”
