The closest photo ever taken of the Sun reveals an incredible secret hidden in Earth’s nearest star

It reveals the Sun’s fiery outer atmosphere, known as the corona, in unprecedented detail and could aid scientists in uncovering hidden secrets about the Sun.

The image was captured on March 7 by the European Space Agency’s Solar Orbiter as it approached a critical juncture in its journey.

The spacecraft arrived at the exact halfway point between Earth and the Sun more than two years after launch.

That’s about 46 million miles apart.

The photo was also not taken quickly, taking more than four hours to capture.

This is because the orbiter got so close that it needed to take 25 separate photos, each of which took about ten minutes, and then piece them together into one big complete photo.

The image has over 83 million pixels in a 9148 x 9112 pixel grid, which is ten times the resolution of a 4K TV.

Eventually, the orbiter will approach the Sun at a distance of 26 million miles, the closest any spacecraft with a camera has come.

SPICE is an instrument that works alongside the EUI (Extreme Ultraviolet Imager) (Spectral Imaging of the Coronal Environment).

This not only helps to piece together the images, but it also traces the layers in the Sun’s atmosphere from the corona all the way down to the chromosphere.

It detects various wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light emitted by various atoms.

Experts can then use this to search for extremely powerful eruptions.

However, they now hope to learn more about rising temperatures from various atmospheric layers.
