Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to visit Jamaica as part of their Caribbean tour; however, rumours indicate that a protest asking for slavery reparations has been planned near the British High Commission in Kingston.
According to The Independent, the planned demonstration would take place in Kingston’s capital city on Tuesday, March 22, around 10:30 a.m.
The protest, which has apparently been organised by the Jamaican human rights coalition Advocates Network, would be accompanied with a list of “60 grounds for an apology and reparations from the monarchy” to commemorate Jamaica’s forthcoming 60th anniversary of independence.

The coalition has also written an open letter to the Queen, which has been signed by over 100 prominent Jamaicans.
“We will not participate in your Platinum Jubilee celebration! We see no reason to celebrate 70 years of the ascension of your grandmother to the British throne because her leadership, and that of her predecessors, have perpetuated the greatest human rights tragedy in the history of humankind,” the letter read.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate will visit Jamaica as part of their continuing week-long Caribbean journey to Belize, Jamaica, and The Bahamas to commemorate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee year.
