CANADA: This is the moment a surprised angler caught a massive 11-foot “living dinosaur” fish weighing in at 588 pounds.
Yves Bisson was fishing in Canada’s Fraser River when he caught the beast, which he estimated to be up to 100 years old.
The fishing guide posted a video of his catch on TikTok, showcasing the fish’s enormous size.
“Check this out, this fish is 10 and a half feet, probably 500, maybe 600lbs,” he said, holding the living dinosaur.
“We were just able to tag it, it has probably never been caught and now we are going to release it back into the river.”
The fish, according to Yves, was a sturgeon, a species that dates back to the Jurassic period and is commonly referred to as “living dinosaurs.”
Yves was fishing with his friend Dan Lallier when they saw the “special” fish. In his 20 years as a guide, he claims to have landed over 22,000 sturgeon.
“After jumping out of the water two times during the fight, we all looked at each other in disbelief at the enormous size,” he told USA Today.
“We knew it was something special.”
The fish was tagged before being released into the sea, where it slowly swam away.
“This is very normal behaviour for sturgeon to be very still and docile in shallow water after being released,” Yves told the outlet.
“They are the strongest freshwater fish in the world and the mortality rate for angling is 0.012 per cent, so basically they never die, and our world-renown tagging program has the data to back all this.
“This giant fish swam away after being released, which the video didn’t show, and I’m sure it will live for another 100 years.”
