People travelling over the weekend all across the world were left stranded after Google Maps went down on Friday. The outage, sparked a flurry of jokes, with most users startled that the service was unavailable.

People were having trouble loading maps on their phones, making navigation hard, causing netizens to resort to Twitter to discover if it was a one-time issue.

People from all around the world quickly signed up, realising that the app was far more important to them than they realised. The outage began late Friday evening, according to Downdetector. Mapping services were disrupted in the United States, Canada, several regions of Europe, India, Australia, and other nations.

Google did not disclose any additional details regarding the outage or what caused it, but the Google Maps platform status dashboard acknowledged the event and noted that services had been disrupted.

A few hours later, Google declared that the issue had been rectified. A business spokesman told Mashable, “We can confirm that the technical issue from earlier today is now fixed.”
