The Royal Family’s participation at the Oscars could be a “last kick in the teeth.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to attend the Oscars ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood next weekend as special guests.

At the star-studded event, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to give the night’s most important honour and reveal the winner of the Best Picture Award.

This follows the Duke’s decision to skip his grandfather Prince Philip’s memorial service, citing worries about his safety in the UK.

According to the Sun, a source said: “They’d obviously be a huge coup this year, and they could use their attendance to deliver an impassioned speech on any topic they wanted, most likely Ukraine.

“Will Packer and Shayla Cowan, the show’s producers, have lined up some incredible A-list names to take to the stage.

A source told the Sun: “Obviously they’d be a huge coup this year, and could use their appearance to make an impassioned speech of their choosing, most likely Ukraine.

“Show producers Will Packer and Shayla Cowan have lined up some amazing A-list names to take to the stage and Harry and Meghan would be the icing on the cake.”

“It would be seen as a final kick in the teeth for the royal family if Harry did – he’s too nervous to fly to London without police protection, but happy to stand up in front of a huge live audience at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Not great optics,” it added.
