Imran says couldn’t watch Pakistan-Australia match for his fight against political “match-fixing”

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday said he could not watch the second test match between Pakistan and Australia in Karachi because he was fighting against match-fixing on another front, where huge amounts of money were being used to lure his players.

However, PM Khan congratulated the entire team especially Babar Azam, for his captain’s innings, Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique.

“Congratulations to Babar Azam for leading the Pak team in a tremendous fightback with a superb captain’s inning & world class batting display; & congratulations to the rest of the team too in the way they fought back, especially Rizwan & Shafique,” he tweeted.

Pakistan team fought hard against Australia’s pace and spin attacks for more than five sessions to bring the losing match to draw, after crumbling to 148 runs in the second innings.

Former England skipper and commentator Michael Vaughan lauded Pakistan captain Babar Azam, for his blistering 196-run marathon off 425 balls during the last innings of the second Test against Australia.

He believes Babar is ”brilliant across all formats.”

Babar has been displaying world-class batting ever since rising to the top ranks as a batsman, especially in white-ball cricket.

On his Twitter handle Vaughan tweeted: “Without question, I think Babar Azam is the best all-round batter in the world right now .. Brilliant across all the formats.”

Pakistan and Australia are scheduled to play the final Test match at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore from March 21-25.
