Tragic final words of a mother who died after falling 60 feet while taking a dangerous shortcut while her daughter pleaded with her to stop

An inquest heard that a MUM-OF-FIVE told her daughter “I’ll be fine” just moments before falling 60ft to her death at a beauty spot.

Ruqayya Hussain, 18, begged Tahira Jabeen, 46, not to descend the steep slope near the Dorset coastal landmark of Durdle Door.

People on the beach below yelled at her to stop, with one saying, “You’re going to kill yourself!”

However, the Asda employee from Birmingham continued walking before slipping and collapsing on the way down.

Tahira, who was wearing black Crocs at the time, was about halfway down the cliff when she slid off the edge and onto the beach below.

Ruqayya snapped a photo of herself walking down the 120-foot cliff and texted it to her sisters, saying, “Look what mum’s doing.”

An inquest heard that the mother suffered multiple rib fractures and punctured lungs after collapsing after hitting rocks as she fell.

An off-duty paramedic and ICU nurse on the beach performed CPR on her, but she died at the scene at 3:25 p.m. on June 14, 2021.

Ruqayya did not witness her mother’s fall because she was walking down the cliff steps at the time and had to be restrained when she arrived at the beach.

Tahira had wanted to go to Durdle Door for a long time, according to the inquest.

She previously worked as an Asda retail assistant and as a contract tracer for the NHS’s Test and Trace service.

As part of their family vacation, she and her daughter arrived at the popular beauty spot shortly before 3 p.m.

Ruqayya stated that her mother believed she could climb down the cliff to Man O’ War beach instead of taking the steps.

“Mum said, ‘I could climb that,'” she explained.

“I talked her out of it, said ‘don’t be silly, it’s a cliff’. She had agreed to that but changed her mind ten seconds later.

“She reassured me, said ‘I’ll be fine’ and continued to make her way down.”

‘I’LL BE FINE’

Ruqayya went on: “The cliff was undeniably dangerous, in my opinion.

“From where we were, it appeared to be a gentler slope, something my mother thought was within her capabilities.

“At first, I just stood there watching her walk down; she seemed in control, so I decided to walk down and meet her at the beach.

“I walked up the stairs, my gaze fixed on her. I took a picture and texted it to my sisters to let them know what my mother was up to.

“When I got to the stairs, I couldn’t see her, which made me very worried because I realised something had happened.”

Orn Jonasar, a tourist, was standing just a few feet away when Tahira began to descend the “very steep cliffs.”

“Even going down the steps, because of the steepness, it’s not an easy process; you have to take care,” he explained.

“I couldn’t see the beach from the slope, so I knew there had to be a drop off.” Even with climbing ropes, I would not have attempted it.

“I yelled, ‘You’re going to kill yourself,’ but she had already begun.”

“There was no acknowledgement; it was as if I wasn’t there.”
