A Vermont state lawmaker introduces a bill to ban the use of cellphones for people under the age of 21.

People under 21 years of age will have to pay fines of $1,000 and will also be jailed for using cellphones.

Sen. John Rodgers, a Democrat, has presented the bill.

The bill says, “In light of the dangerous and life-threatening consequences of cellphone use by young people, it is clear that persons under 21 years of age are not developmentally mature enough to safely possess them,”

According to a local news agency, the bill also says, “The Internet and social media, accessed primarily through cell phones, are used to radicalize and recruit terrorists, fascists, and other extremists,”

“Cell phones have often been used by mass shooters of younger ages for research on previous shootings.”

John Rodgers justifies the bill that the use of cellphones creates many troubles including accidents, bullying, suicides and criminal activities.

He said that even the bill will not get votes in support, he will keep pushing for the bill to pass.

However, the idea was criticized by numerous people. Michelle Fay, executive director of Voices for Vermont’s children, said “There are so many critical issues impacting the lives of working families in Vermont today,” “We urge the Legislature to focus on the important work at hand instead of getting tied up in hollow diversions.”

He also said that youngsters can still use a computer even if they do not use cellphones, there is no use to consider the bill.
