LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday dismissed an appeal challenging a lower court’s order on an appellant’s claim that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had purportedly sold his 88 kanals land but was not transferring the file in his name.
The appellant, Muhammad Ashraf Malik, told the court that in 2019 Nawaz had agreed to sell 88 Kanal 5 marla land located in Sheikhupura. He added that he also transferred Rs75 million to the former premier’s bank account.
Malik claimed that the transferred money was appearing in Nawaz Sharif’s account yet he declined to transfer the land to his name.

He pointed out that he approached a civil court and filed a suit for the execution of the agreement to sell but the court dismissed his claim. His first appeal was also turned down by a district and sessions court, he added.
“Transferring money to someone’s account and saying that he has sold the land, seems like fraud, ” Justice Shahid Waheed ruled.
The appellant insisted Yousuf Abbas had entered into an agreement with him on behalf of Nawaz Sharif because Sharif had given him power of attorney for the sale of his land.
The court remarked that the registered land sale agreement had to be presented in the civil court but the appellant failed to do so.

The lawyer argued that it was not necessary to register the sale agreement in 2019.
The court did not sway with his arguments and pointed out that the law was amended in 2019 and the agreement to the sale had to be registered.
The court ruled that apparently, the appeal seemed to be frivolous and also imposed a fine on the appellant.
