Brazilian court investigate Bolsonaro’s claims about COVID-19 vaccines and AIDS

The Brazilian Supreme Court has ordered an investigation on President Jair Bolsonaro’s false claims that receiving the COVID-19 vaccine increases the chance of contracting AIDS.

On Twitter, the Supreme Court said that Justice Alexandre de Moraes had begun an investigation into Bolsonaro’s comments made during a live video broadcast on numerous social media platforms in October.

Bolsonaro was temporarily suspended from Facebook and YouTube after appearing in a video in which he claimed that reports about him were false. “suggest that people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are developing Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome much faster than expected.”

Scientists and medical experts were quick to dismiss the notion.

The inquiry was established, according to the Supreme Court, in response to a request from a parliamentary commission looking into the Bolsonaro administration’s reaction to the outbreak.
