PTA to decrease fares on Off-net mobile calls

ISLAMABAD: The off-net mobile call charges have been decreased by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Thursday.

The Mobile Termination Rate (MTR) will be from Rs. 0.70 per minute to Rs. 0.50 per minute, which will be implemented from 1st January 2022, after a detailed discussion with the telecom industry, said PTA.

In a press release issued by the PTA, it was announced that the rates shall be additionally reduced to Rs. 0.40 per minute from 1st July 2022.

“It is expected to make the market healthier and beneficial in terms of lower tariffs for making off-net calls. It would also benefit smaller operators in terms of reduced net payments to be made to the bigger operators,” stated the press release.

The telecom operators requested the PTA to analyze the current mobile termination rates. The mainstream of the replies received, sustained PTA’s commendation to lower MTR.
