City govt examining heavy traffic on Lyari Expressway on trial basis: Murtaza Wahab

KARACHI: Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab said on Monday that the city government was examining the heavy traffic on Lyari Expressway on a trial basis.

“Trucks and container trailers will pass through the Lyari Expressway. Plying heavy traffic at Lyari Expressway will reduce traffic congestion in the city,” the administrator said during an inspection of the artery.

KMC Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, DIG motorways, officials of National Highway Authority and others were also present on the occasion.

The administrator reviewed the arrangements made for the transfer of the heavy traffic on the Lyari Expressway.

He said that traffic jam is a major problem in the city and efforts are being made for a permanent solution. He also said that he was grateful to governor Sindh Imran Ismail for his cooperation on the issue.

The administrator said that there is adequate infrastructure for traffic on Lyari Expressway. He added that the transfer of heavy traffic to the Lyari Expressway will improve the flow of traffic on city roads.

“Heavy traffic travels 90 km in the city to reach the Super Highway. Traffic jam in the city is a major problem that wastes valuable time and fuel of citizens,” he added.

He said that due to the increase in traffic on various major arteries of Karachi, there is pressure on the roads which must be dealt with and for this special lanes are being allotted.

Wahab said that it is hoped that as a result of these measures, the traffic system will be improved.
