CAIRO: Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit on Thursday warned against the expanding Israeli settlements and the ongoing deteriorated humanitarian and economic conditions of the Palestinians.
He made the remarks during his meeting in Cairo with Tor Wennesland, United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.
“Both diplomats reviewed recent developments in Palestine and Israel, pointing out the dangers of the absence of peaceful settlement,” the AL said in a statement.
Aboul-Gheit voiced deep concerns over the escalating Israeli violations in the West Bank and Jerusalem, including the Israeli government’s plans for building thousands of residential units in the occupied territories.
He emphasised the importance of pursuing serious talks between Israel and Palestine under international mediation and in accordance with the international resolutions.
