Lou Ottens, a Dutch engineer and inventor, died last week at the age of 94.
The Dutch engineer not only invented the cassette tape but also played a key role in the production of the CDs.
Lou Ottens was born in 1926 and as a young man during the German occupation of the Netherlands, he built a radio that bypassed Nazi army jammers.
After the war, he earned an engineering degree and began working at the Philips factory in Belgium where he worked till the entirety of his career.
Fed up with the old-fashioned big-reel tape recorder, Ottens invented the cassette tape.
Later, in 1980, he co-produced a 12cm CD in partnership with Philips and Sony.
