PM Shehbaz at UNGA: Pakistan will never accept water aggression from India

NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered a forceful and emotional speech at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he strongly raised Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir, Palestine, and regional peace. He warned that Pakistan would never tolerate water aggression or allow India to use the Indus Waters Treaty as a weapon.

Quran Recitation to Open the Address:

The Prime Minister began his speech with a recitation from the Holy Quran. He congratulated the UNGA President on chairing the session and praised UN Secretary-General António Guterres for his “courageous leadership in difficult times.”

Condemnation of Israel and Support for Palestine:

Shehbaz Sharif called the ongoing killings in Gaza “open aggression” by Israel and strongly condemned its attacks on civilians. He also denounced Israel’s assault on Qatar, terming it “bullying behavior.”

Reaffirming Pakistan’s Stand on Kashmir:

The Prime Minister said Pakistan would never allow oppression to suppress the Kashmiri struggle for freedom. He accused India of refusing cooperation in the Pahalgam incident investigation and of exploiting a humanitarian tragedy for political gains.

Warning against Aggression and Water Politics:

Shehbaz warned India against trying to weaponize the Indus Waters Treaty. He declared that Pakistan believes in peaceful coexistence and diplomatic solutions, but if attacked, it has the full capability to respond decisively in self-defense.

Tribute to the Armed Forces and the May 2025 Conflict:

Referring to Indian aggression in May, Shehbaz said the “arrogant enemy faced a humiliating defeat.” He highlighted that under Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s leadership, the armed forces showed courage and professionalism, while Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar’s “Shaheens” destroyed seven enemy fighter jets.

Honoring Martyrs and Their Families:

The Prime Minister paid rich tribute to Pakistan’s martyrs, saying their sacrifices will never be forgotten. “We salute the families of our martyrs. Their courage lights our path, and the names of our fallen heroes will always live with honor and dignity,” he said.

Global Challenges:

Shehbaz Sharif warned that the world is facing worsening conflicts, blatant violations of international law, humanitarian crises, and rising terrorism. He reminded the assembly that last year he had warned of decisive action if Pakistan was attacked, and May’s events proved those words true.

“Our martyrs’ sacrifices will never go in vain,” the Prime Minister concluded, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, dignity, and national defense.
