RIYADH: Sheikh Abdul-Aziz bin Abdullah Al Sheikh, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia and one of the most respected scholars in the Islamic world, passed away on Tuesday morning, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) confirmed.

In an official statement, SPA announced that his funeral prayers will be held today after Asar at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
Furthermore, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud, has ordered that the funeral prayer for Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul-Aziz be performed in absentia at the Grand Mosque (Masjid al-Haram), Masjid an-Nabawi, and all mosques across the Kingdom after the Asar prayer.
His passing marks the end of a significant era in Islamic scholarship and religious leadership.
Sheikh Abdul-Aziz served as the Grand Mufti of the Kingdom for many years and was also the President of the Council of Senior Scholars.
He was widely recognized for his immense contributions to Islamic jurisprudence and religious guidance, both within Saudi Arabia and across the Muslim world.
Describing his death as a “great loss,” the official statement praised his lifelong dedication to Islam and scholarly work, stating: “He was a guiding light for Muslims, known for his knowledge, humility, and unwavering commitment to the teachings of Islam.”
