KARTARPUR:  Ceremonies marking the 486th death anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, are currently underway at Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, drawing thousands of devotees from across Pakistan and abroad.

On the first day of the observance, over 2,000 pilgrims gathered at the revered shrine to offer prayers and participate in religious rituals, reaffirming their spiritual connection with the teachings of Baba Guru Nanak.

Sikh pilgrims performed traditional practices, including paying respects at the sanctum, reciting scriptures, and partaking in the Langar a communal meal served to all visitors, symbolizing equality and service.

The Darbar Sahib, which had recently suffered damage due to flooding, has been fully restored, and the swift rehabilitation efforts have been widely appreciated by the Sikh community.

“Visiting Kartarpur is a divine blessing,” said a pilgrim from Sindh. “We are thankful to the Government of Pakistan for the respectful and well-organized arrangements.”

Many pilgrims expressed disappointment over the absence of Sikh devotees from India, attributing it to travel restrictions. Several appealed to the Indian government to facilitate access for Indian Sikhs to visit the Kartarpur Corridor for such important religious events.

“This is a place of peace and unity,” a visitor from the UK remarked. “Politics should not come in the way of spirituality. Baba Guru Nanak belongs to all of humanity.”
