Sri Lanka crush Bangladesh by six wickets in Asia Cup clash

Abu Dhabi: Sri Lanka delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Bangladesh by six wickets in the fifth match of the Asia Cup T20 tournament, showcasing both discipline and intent as they chased down the target with ease.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bowl first and immediately put Bangladesh under pressure. The decision paid dividends early, with both Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain falling for ducks in the opening overs. Bangladesh found themselves in deep trouble before a valuable 86-run partnership between Zakir Ali (41) and Shamim Hossain (42) helped steady the innings.

Despite the brief resistance, Sri Lanka’s bowlers maintained control throughout, restricting Bangladesh to 140 runs a total that always looked below par on a good batting surface.

In reply, Sri Lanka’s top order showed positive intent from the outset. Pathum Nissanka led the way with a brisk half-century, scoring 50, while Kamindu Mendis played a composed knock, finishing unbeaten on 46. The target was chased down comfortably in just 14.4 overs, with Sri Lanka reaching 144 for 4.

This convincing win not only strengthens Sri Lanka’s position in the tournament but also underlines their sharp form in all departments batting, bowling, and fielding.
