KARACHI: A local court on Tuesday rejected the bail application of an accused in the case of sexual assault and subsequent death of his newlywed wife in Lyari.
During proceedings, the Additional District and Sessions Judge heard arguments in the case, while police officials informed the court that the accused had subjected his wife to severe sexual violence.
According to investigators, the victim remained in a coma for several days following the assault before succumbing to her injuries.
The court, after reviewing the case record and prosecution arguments, dismissed the bail request, paving the way for further trial proceedings.
Police further stated that a formal case has been registered against Ashok at the Baghdadi Police Station.
After considering the evidence and the confession, the court dismissed the bail application, directing that trial proceedings against the accused continue.
Earlier, A 19-year-old bride, Shanti, who was critically injured due to severe domestic violence by her husband, passed away at the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma (SMBBIT) earlier today.
The incident occurred on June 17 in the Shah Baig Lane area of Lyari. According to police, the victim was subjected to brutal physical torture, with multiple parts of her body mutilated, leaving her in a critical condition.
Shanti had been under treatment at a local hospital before succumbing to her injuries.
Police have arrested the accused, Ashok, who has been sent to jail after a case was registered against him on the complaint of the victim’s brother at the Baghdadi Police Station.
