Lahore: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced record prize money for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, setting a new precedent in the history of women’s cricket.

According to the official announcement, the champions of the tournament will receive an unprecedented $4.48 million, surpassing the $4 million awarded to the winners of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

This marks the first time a women’s cricket team will receive higher prize money than their male counterparts in a World Cup event.

The runner-up will be awarded $2.24 million, while the losing semi-finalists will each take home $1.12 million. In an additional boost for performance, each group stage match win will earn teams $34,314.

The ICC has structured a comprehensive payout system for all participating teams in the tournament. According to the distribution plan, the teams finishing in 5th and 6th place will each receive $700,000. Meanwhile, the teams securing 7th and 8th place will be awarded $280,000 each.

Every participating team is guaranteed a minimum of $250,000, regardless of their final position.

Calling it a “historic moment” for women’s cricket, ICC Chairman Jay Shah emphasized the significance of the step.

“This is a landmark moment in the journey of gender equality in cricket. Women cricketers will now receive equal facilities and rewards as their male counterparts.”

The 2025 Women’s World Cup promises not only fierce competition on the field but also a major leap forward in the recognition and financial support of women athletes globally.
