WhatsApp Introduces AI Writing Assistant for Chats

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called Writing Help, which helps users compose messages faster by offering AI-generated text suggestions.

The feature can suggest different tones, including professional, humorous, and supportive, and works in both direct messages and group chats.

Users can use Writing Help by tapping a new pencil icon while typing a message. The tool then presents several AI-generated versions of the message, letting users select one or ignore the suggestions entirely.

The feature is designed to give options without changing the usual messaging experience for those who prefer to type manually.

Here is what it looks like;

Writing Help works through Meta’s Private Processing technology. The company explains that this system allows AI to provide suggestions without giving Meta or WhatsApp access to the original messages or the generated responses. WhatsApp says the technology has been tested and verified with help from the security community.

The feature is optional and turned off by default. Users who do not want to use Writing Help can continue using WhatsApp as usual without any changes to their messaging experience. The company stressed that using the feature does not affect user privacy.

Writing Help is initially available in English for users in the United States and a few other countries. WhatsApp plans to roll out the feature in more languages and regions later this year, and it is expected to be available in Pakistan soon.
