Blood Moon Eclipse to dazzle skies over Pakistan soon

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that the country will witness its first blood moon eclipse of the year on the night between September 7 and 8.

A blood moon happens during a total lunar eclipse, when the Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the moon. Instead, the light bends through Earth’s atmosphere, making the moon appear deep red in color.

According to PMD, the eclipse will begin on September 7 at 8:28 PM with the penumbral phase. The partial eclipse will start at 9:27 PM, and the eclipse will reach its peak at 11:12 PM. The partial phase will end at 12:57 AM on September 8, while the entire eclipse will finish by 1:55 AM. In total, the event will last for about 5 hours and 27 minutes.

Besides Pakistan, the blood moon will also be visible across Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, and the Pacific region. Countries including India, Bangladesh, China, Japan, and Saudi Arabia will experience a clear view of the eclipse. People in parts of western North America and eastern South America will also get a chance to witness this rare celestial event.
