DHAKA: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan and Bangladesh should put aside the disputes of 1971 and focus on building a better future together.

Speaking during his visit to Bangladesh, Dar told reporters that the 1971 issue was settled long ago. He explained that the matter was first resolved in 1974, and the documents proving it are still with both countries. Later, during former President Pervez Musharraf’s visit to Dhaka, the issue was again discussed in detail.

Dar stressed that Islam teaches reconciliation when the differences between brothers end. “We should clear our hearts and move forward,” he said. He added that the dispute has been settled twice already, and it is time for both nations to focus on cooperation, growth, and the well-being of their people.

The Deputy PM underlined that both Pakistan and Bangladesh must work together for a brighter future instead of remaining stuck in the past.

Dar’s visit to Bangladesh is historic, as he is the first senior Pakistani leader to travel there in 13 years.
