Authorities in Sindh have announced that all government and private schools in Karachi will remain closed on Wednesday, August 20, because of heavy monsoon rains that have disrupted the city.
Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon said the decision was made to protect public safety as many areas of the city are flooded, with water levels reaching up to three feet in some places.
Traffic in Karachi has been badly affected, with vehicles stuck and long lines forming on major roads. Many students from schools and colleges are trapped in traffic, facing difficulty getting home safely. The city is still struggling with the effects of flooding, and more rain is expected in Karachi and other parts of Sindh over the next few days.
Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay alert until the situation improves.
