ALEXANDRIA, Egypt: The Egyptian sports community has been plunged into deep mourning following the shocking death of national judo champion Dina Alaa, whose body was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in her Alexandria apartment.
According to security sources, Dina’s husband was also found at the scene with a critical gunshot injury and was immediately transported to the hospital for emergency treatment. Their children were reportedly present in the home when the tragic incident occurred.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the husband allegedly shot Dina before attempting to take his own life. Police recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the incident and collected other forensic evidence from the scene.
Neighbors told authorities the couple had frequent arguments, leading investigators to suspect that a heated domestic dispute may have escalated into fatal violence.
An autopsy was ordered by the public prosecutor, and Dina Alaa was later laid to rest by her grieving family.
Dina Alaa’s club, Samooha Sporting Club, expressed profound sorrow over the loss. In an official statement, Engineer Mohamed Farag Amer, the club’s president, said:
“Dina Alaa was a gifted and valued member of our judo team. Her sudden death is a tremendous loss, not only for Samooha Club but for the entire Egyptian sports community.”
He praised her exceptional character and talent, extending heartfelt condolences to her family and praying for her soul to rest in peace.
Meanwhile, authorities in Alexandria continue to investigate the case, gathering witness statements and analyzing evidence to determine the full circumstances behind the incident. The presence of the children during the shooting has further deepened public concern.
This tragic event has reignited national conversations about domestic violence and the urgent need for stronger protective measures and social awareness in Egypt. Dina Alaa’s death serves as a painful reminder of the often-hidden dangers within households, affecting even those in the public spotlight.
