KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast an intensification of monsoon rains across various parts of the country starting on Monday.
Light drizzle was reported in different areas of Karachi overnight, while heavy downpours in Dera Ismail Khan inundated low-lying areas.
According to the Met Office, rainfall is expected in Karachi and other parts of Sindh today, with the monsoon system likely to gain strength in the coming days.
PMD has warned of heavy rainfall in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir in the coming days.
Areas including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Chakwal and Attock have been placed on alert due to the potential risk of cloudbursts, which could trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable regions.
On the other hand, torrential rains are expected till August 22 in different parts of Sindh and Balochistan.
Meanwhile, there are medium -sized floods on Tarbela, Kala Bagh, Chashma and Tunsa Barrage in the Indus River, while there is a lower level flood on Guddu Barrage.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division Lahore, Head Sulemanki and Ganda Singh Wala are also flooded in the Sutlej River.
